One of my favorite tips for daily popsicle consumption is to find a way to make them nourishing and good for you too such as these Orange Creamsicle Popsicles. These popsicles are packed with vitamin C, protein and fiber thanks to a very delicious orange fruit and orange vegetable!

Store-bought popsicles tend to be loaded with added sugar and fake ingredients. We want you to feel confident in what you or your family are eating, which is why we hope this recipe can be a fun addition to your summer routine!

Creamsicle popsicles with orange and orange slices all on ice.

Health Benefits of Popsicle Ingredients

Orange

Oranges are a great source of prebiotic fiber! This is the type of fiber that feeds your good gut microbes and helps them thrive! When those microbes are well nourish, your gut is able to heal itself and digestion runs smoother. Oranges are also a good source of potassium, which is essential for heart function, nerve function and muscle contraction

Carrots

This incredible root veggie is packed with vitamins and minerals such as beta-carotene, biotin, vitamin K, potassium and vitamin B6. Beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the body. This supports eye health, vision and reduces the risk of eye disease.

10 Healthy Freezer Staples! https://healthygrocerygirl.com/2021/08/12/10-healthy-freezer-staples/ Thu, 12 Aug 2021 19:37:43 +0000 https://www.healthygrocerygirl.com/?p=100750 What’s In My Freezer + Health Benefits

Hi Friends! Today I am sharing 10 of my favorite freezer items. These are our go-to staples that you’ll always find in our freezer! Click play to watch the video below!

Frozen Whole Food Staples

Frozen Wild Blueberries: Low-bush or “wild” blueberries are smaller in size and contain more antioxidants compared to traditional blueberries. 1 cup of wild blueberries contains 24% of your RDI for vitamin C and 36% of your RDI for vitamin K. Consuming blueberries has also been associated with supporting heart health, lowering blood pressure and supporting brain function.

Frozen Strawberries: I love adding frozen strawberries to my morning smoothies. They are packed with vitamin C, manganese, folate (vitamin B9), potassium and fiber!

Frozen Cauliflower: One of the easiest ways for me to consume cauliflower everyday is to add it to my smoothies! You can buy whole cauliflower, wash, chop and freeze or also look for frozen cauliflower in the freezer aisle! Cauliflower is a nutrient dense food! One cup of cauliflower contains 77% of your RDI of vitamin C, 20% of your RDI for vitamin K and additional vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B6, folate (vitamin B9), potassium, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus. Cauliflower is high in fiber and known as a cruciferous vegetable. Cruciferous vegetables contain a compound known as glucosinolates, which may help to fight cancer.

Frozen Peas: Peas are one of the kids favorite vegetables and they are easy and quick to make. A ½ cup of green peas contains 4 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein along with 34% of your RDI for vitamin A!

Healthy Freezer Products

Hilary’s Veggie Burgers: These are one of our favorite veggie burgers! I love the options with 8 grams of protein. They are made with real, whole foods such as millet and chickpeas. We love to bake and top on a salad or enjoy as a burger with ketchup, mustard and sauerkraut!

Daily Harvest: We also have some Daily Harvest in the freezer. They are so great for quick lunches or snacks. I’m a big fan of flatbreads and harvest bowls. The scoops (which are the dairy-free ice-cream) are also so great! You can also use my code DHMEGANR25 to save $25 off Daily Harvest!

Frozen Amy’s Burritos: We also love to keep a few frozen burritos in the freezer. Aaron and I will eat these for lunch with a side salad, ideally topped with avocado and salsa! I love the bean and veggie burritos.

Waffles: I love these grain-free and gluten-free waffles. I typically have one of these as a morning snack after I workout with a scoop of almond butter or peanut butter!

Bonafide Provisions Bone Broth: I make a big batch of homemade soup every week. It’s my favorite meal prep for easy, healthy lunches throughout the week. Bonafide Provisions Bone Broth is our go-to! Bone broth can be a great staple to support gut health.

Health Benefits of Bananas

Did you know that one bananas provides around 9% of your daily Potassium intake? Potassium is an electrolyte that regulates nerve function and also is what helps your muscles contract. Low potassium levels in the body can lead to more severe things such as irregular heart beat.

Bananas also contain lectin, which acts like an antioxidant in the body. Antioxidants are important because they help your body right free radicals and protects cells from damage. The vitamin C content found in bananas can also help protect cells!

Another reason to love this fruit is that it is full of fiber and water! Both of these things are crucial for digestion and may help with keeping you regular.

10 No Added Sugar Recipes https://healthygrocerygirl.com/2020/03/11/10-no-added-sugar-recipes/ Wed, 11 Mar 2020 09:16:51 +0000 https://www.healthygrocerygirl.com/?p=68554 Sugar is found everywhere and can be hard to avoid if you aren’t careful. At HGG, we want to help guide you in finding simple and easy recipes that are nourishing and void of added sugar. These No Added Sugar recipes are gluten-free, dairy-free and packed nutrients that will help satisfy any of those sugar cravings.

Added Sugar Versus Whole Food Sugar

Added sugar simply means that sugar was added into the food during processing. Natural or whole food sugars are sugars that occur naturally within the food. These types of sugars include fruit, maple syrup, date sugar, coconut sugar and honey.

Why Avoid Added Sugar?

Did you know that sugar contains no nutritional benefits? Instead it can wreak havoc on your body. Sugar can be addicting, suppress your immune system and interfere with skin and gut health. Sugar is added to food for flavor, texture and can even act as a preservative. Being cautious of your sugar intake is a great step toward a healthier lifestyle.

Potential Benefits Of Avoiding Added Sugar

Avoiding added sugar may help your skin stay fresh and hydrated as well as lessening your visible signs of aging. Another benefit may be lasting energy! Your body will go through less spikes and crashes throughout the day leading to steady energy. Also, keeping your insulin levels stable may help your body with weight loss and increasing your metabolism, thus decreasing the risk of long-term diseases.

Vegan Chocolate Crunch Soft Serve

Servings 6

Ingredients

  • ½ cup full fat coconut milk from a can
  • ½ cup dates
  • cup raw cacao powder
  • 5 bananas ¾ cup pecans

Instructions

  • The day before making this dessert peel and roughly chop the bananas, lay them out on a cookie sheet or place them in a ziplock bag and store in the freezer. You will also want to pit the dates and add to a small dish filled with water and place in the refrigerator, this will soften the dates.
  • When you are ready to make your soft serve add all ingredients into a food processor and pulse until everything is thoroughly mixed. If you do not have a food processor you can also make this in a high speed blender; in this case I suggest adding the coconut milk, dates and cacao first, blend until smooth. Then add the frozen banana pieces a few at a time so as to not overwhelm the blender; finally blend in the pecans.
  • When the soft serve is fully mixed, pour into a metal loaf pan and place in the freezer for 3-4 hours, the soft serve will harden up just enough to be perfect for scooping and serving.
